This is an EXTREMELY EARLY note on the topic of something that I think would be awesome and am putting out feelers to see how many folks are interested.

Doing the calculations through various money-saving sites, the cost of a 7-night stay in Walt Disney World in the Saratoga Springs Treehouse Villas split between 9 people is around $450 per person. Adding in park tickets (park hopper with all the fixin's) and dining plan (standard, which includes a table service meal, quick service meal, and snack per day [this is a TON of food in Disney]), the total cost for the trip would be about $1,200 per person. Not including airfare or souvenirs, of course, but it DOES include food!

For a weeklong trip to Disney, that's a pretty kickass price. As I've previously pondered here, it's not that different than going to a convention when it comes to money spent.

So I'm asking here: would anybody be interested in doing a group trip to Disney? I've already got a pair of folks interested, and I have an idea of a few others who'd enjoy a trip like this as well. I'm estimating this for the off-season, sometime in October or November (around Epcot's Food & Wine festival), sometime in the next 2 or 3 years. It'd be an un-convention ;)

And of course, I'm just thinking WAY ahead and have no idea if this will actually happen, and figure tossing the idea around as early as possible might be a good plan to see what others think.

Edit Sunday 1/19 @ 7:14pm: Holy shit, you guys, the response to this idea has been OVERWHELMING. I'm pondering doing a different resort with several rooms, just because so many folks are interested. And, since this is planning for WAY out (2015 at earliest; I was originally estimating 2016), I still have that option.

More posts with possibilities will be coming soon!

The response so far has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic! This could be a thing that happens!

It would be an absolute joy to have you along!

I'm glad I put the word out now, this could be a thing that actually happens; my little planning self is overjoyed :)

It sounds interesting... Given the timing of RainFurrest, it might be tricky for me, but it's definitely something I'd be interested in. Most likely, [livejournal.com profile] marzolan might be interested as well. Hell, if all the stars aligned we might get [livejournal.com profile] farhoug in on it as well. Marz has wanted to do Disney World with the both of us, after all, and that would fit one of those villa bedrooms right nicely...

Might? Might?!

Yes, I'd definitely be interested. The logistics of money and time off of work would have to be dealt with, but I can make plans now money-wise, and time off could be handled with ~3 months notice without getting too dicey usually, 6 months preferred.

PLUS! I'd get to meet someone my dear, understating mate has had high words for! I do not currently see a downside to this, especially given the ample notice. The mistwolf could be handled too, I have no doubt.

(Also, the new notification about being mentioned in a comment are kinda cool… that's how I got here)

As mentioned in the post, I'm thinking several years out at this point...though, with the response I've been getting, my plans of 2016 may be able to happen in 2015, considering the response I've been getting.

And actually, considering the response I've been getting, I may have to plan for multiple villas! I'm going to have to put through a vote on which resort we stay at ;)

Yes indeed, I'd love to go to Disney World! I'm tired of spending money on conventions where I don't have much fun.

I've been hearing that from more and more convention-going friends lately, and it makes me kinda of sad. Conventions used to be awesome, what the heck happened?

(And I've always been an artist/dealer or volunteered at conventions, too [what's the point of going if you have nothing to do?], so I have NO idea what changed.)

I will add you to the list of interested parties! A more serious post about this will be going up momentarily asking for emails to start a Serious Mailing List about the topic, though I already have your email :)

Conventions didn't change, I did. I can't go to a con just to have fun without feeling guilty because I know how much effort others have to put in to make the con happen, and I never learned how to meet and connect with people other than by volunteering, and volunteering isn't very much fun or rewarding for me any more.

Cons used to be fun for me because I went hoping to meet someone special the way you and SpotWeld have. And it's becoming apparent that it's less and less likely to happen. At this point the women I find attractive are likely to think me an old creep, or are already involved with someone, and I'm a proud and noble enough fool not to express my interest. I helped build the kind of fandom that I wished existed when I was younger, and I can't enjoy it.
