We got the Volvo back yesterday. It was the alternator...and the dealer replaced it free of charge, covering the cost of both the part and the labor, because they realized that the amount of problems the car had was driving me to consider serious complaints about them and the company itself.

(I assume, anyway, maybe I'm being presumptive.)

I'm still annoyed, and I'd still like to complain more, but they did the right thing: they stood by the car, and they fixed it after it continued to fuck up. So long as nothing else goes wrong anytime soon, I will keep a reasonable degree of annoyance but also respect for them doing the proper thing.

If anything else happens, though...they'll be hell to pay. I'm still contemplating going in on Monday and complaining about getting sold a faulty mess, but I figure I might as well complain at the wall because the problem is fixed; it'll have the same effect.

And yeah, I'm still depressed; that's not something that'll change with the days. Today Grimm brought over cookies because he is awesome and we played Machine of Death and Smallworld and watched My Little Pony, and now I'm drinking mead, and it'd been an okay day.

One day at a time. I'll be seeing the psychiatrist on Friday, and they will give me happy drugs.

(Going to ask about medical marijuana, because why the hell not.)

Well I'm glad they did the right thing, at least! I do hope that's the last problems you have with it for a while!

I hope your depression lifts soon. :/ I know how that colors...basically everything.

I'm glad they did right by the car. Hopefully nothing else goes wrong. Hang in there.

Most people that I've talked to who have owned a Volvo have had electrical issues with it. I had one for a little while, I forget the model but it was a smaller station wagon, and there was a short in the Overdrive button on the shifter. Eventually I learned from pressing it and watching the lights dim that I could read when it was working properly and when it wasn't, which also meant those were days I didn't have to jump it the next morning.

Most European cars have major electrical issues, it's not entirely unusual. My 240 (the square wagon) had an issue where you'd have to start it in Neutral because it wouldn't move otherwise. It was not an uncommon issue with that model, and in fact I'd have had no idea how to deal with it except I was told by other Volvo owners (my parents among them) that it would be an issue that MAY come up.

My major issue is that that car was 20 years old and had all rights to have those kind of issues. This car is 5 years old and was bought from a dealer in the past 6 months; it's not allowed to have these issues. Which, thankfully, the dealer realized =p

So with the new battery and new alternator, knock on wood, the electrical issues should stop for a while (watch, I'll say this, and then the starter will die and I'll end up going "Goddammit I jinxed it."). I'm, sadly, not counting on it, but I CAN say that our dealer has a lifetime warranty on all their replacement parts. So here's hoping they stick by it.
